#realktalk I've been working through some mindset #realktalk I've been working through some mindset issues as part of a program I'm in and understanding how many mental blocks I didn't realize I had (spoiler alert: it's a lot). One thing I've found helpful to do is think about the "lies" I've told myself in the past and how I've already proven them wrong. This helps me reframe, look forward, and break down the lies that I'm STILL telling myself aren't helping me move forward. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ex: I often have thoughts like, to have a 7 figure business, I "have to" do X. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But when I think about all the things I thought I "had to" do to get to where I am today, I realize that a lot of what I believed wasn't true. I didn't need a high ticket offer. I didn't need to work 40+ hour weeks. I didn't need to do all the things the "experts" said I needed to do, because I built a biz that works for me, on my own terms - and if you need to hear it - you can too. 💁🏻‍♀️
A few thoughts on my mind today as a business owne A few thoughts on my mind today as a business owner and human... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sharing graphics on Instagram (especially to amplify black voices) is good. What we DO to take action is more important. Having actual conversations. Educating ourselves. Donating + investing. Listening. Doing the internal work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reacting to violence and racial injustice is normal. What we do to actively promote diversity and inclusion in the communities we build, the businesses we support, and the voices we hear on an ONGOING basis is more important. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No one's perfect. But fear of imperfection (or judgement) isn't a good reason to not show up. #blacklivesmatter
Confession: I haven't on posted in months because Confession: I haven't on posted in months because I have no clue what the purpose of this account is anymore. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Quick backstory in case you're new around here... this used to be my personal insta then for awhile I had a beauty blog then I started @mochiandthecity's account then I launched my business @styledstocksociety - so to be honest, other than the 100 or so people who I know IRL, I have no idea why most people follow me here anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even though I'm on stories pretty much daily, I've avoided posting here because I felt like I needed to figure out some greater purpose for this account... and eventually so much time passed that I felt like I needed to post something profound when I started again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Spoiler alert: this is not profound. But I'm done overthinking. I'm challenging myself to share whatever feels good and/or helpful and not feel like I have to know *exactly* where this leads... I'll figure it out along the way. 💁🏻‍♀️
Making new friends as an adult is weird (and also Making new friends as an adult is weird (and also hard)... especially when you work at home alone. Like all the advice I read says go out meet people at workout classes but what are you supposed to do, hit someone up while they’re putting their shoes on after pilates and ask “so do you come here often?” 😂 Thankfully there’s Instagram. And for whatever reason it’s not weird to drop into someone’s DMs and respond to their dog photos. And it’s not weird to take those Instagram relationships IRL (even if it means traveling across the country). How / where have you made friends as an adult??
I think it's annoying when people take social medi I think it's annoying when people take social media breaks and then come back and APOLOGIZE for needing a freaking break. Because 1) most people probably didn't notice that you were gone + 2) even if they did, you shouldn't feel like you have to apologize because you had other things going on in your life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #realktalk I'm on IG stories every day but haven't posted on my grid in weeks for no real reason other than it hasn't really been a priority. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And as I type out this caption I'm wondering will people even see this post? Does anyone actually read captions anymore? Personally I watch stories all day but rarely scroll and based on my engagement (I get wayyy more story views than photo likes) I'm guessing most of y'all feel the same? 🤷🏻‍♀️
There’s a lot of green in my IG grid lately whic There’s a lot of green in my IG grid lately which is weird because I can’t keep plants alive, I live in a neighborhood without trees, and contrary to what this photo might suggest - I’m 0% outdoorsy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Moral of the story: Instagram life isn’t always real life 🤷🏻‍♀️
“You’re Mochi’s mom!” 👈 A new friend ca “You’re Mochi’s mom!” 👈 A new friend came up to me at an event last week and introduced herself saying she followed @mochiandthecity. It’s a funny world we live in when my dog = the reason I can make friends from all over the world (and she has no idea that she’s so popular 😂). When I started Mochi’s account a few years ago, I hoped her photos would make other people happy the way she makes me happy every day.. but I didn’t expect it would lead to clients, friends, the ability to quit my job, the opportunities to travel, and the need to turn our second bedroom closet into Mochi’s closet (the girl’s got more clothes than I do 🤦🏻‍♀️). Thankful for it all - and yes, if you’re wondering if you should start a separate IG account for your dog / cat / mini horse / etc. - I’d tell you to just do it. You never know what could happen!
It’s crazy how 3 years ago @styledstocksociety w It’s crazy how 3 years ago @styledstocksociety was just a little baby of an idea and now it’s grown into a whole big business of itself! This month has been full of strategizing + making some big decisions behind the scenes in preparation for some shifts in the fall and I feel SO excited for the rest of the year. (PS we’re hiring! Info is in my story right now or slide in to my DMs for the job application link!)
#realtalk over the past couple of weeks it was eas #realtalk over the past couple of weeks it was easy for me to not work when I was in Palm Springs / Miami / Palm Beach... but not that I’ve been back in NYC for a few days it’s been hard for me to not feel like I “should” be working even when I don’t have to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Watching other people share what they’re working on via IG stories + literally seeing my husband work during the day (since he works from home too) sometimes makes me feel like maybe I should be doing something more productive than reading another book (I’ve read 10 this month already) or getting in an extra long gym sesh (followed by a leisurely walk though whole foods). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t get me wrong - I appreciate the free time that I’ve created for myself, but in the past I’ve tied my productivity to my self-worth and sometimes NOT working makes me feel like I’m not doing enough, ya know? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I’m making more of an effort to actually “unplug”, stop paying attention to what other people are doing 🙈, and just do what feels good for me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (Graphic by the talented @our_polished_pages for @styledstocksociety)
I’m back from an extra long weekend in Florida I’m back from an extra long weekend in Florida - a little tanner and a lot more relaxed! Taking things easy this week with a little biz planning, a lot of workouts (I literally ate all the carbs in Miami), and lazy afternoon cuddles with @mochiandthecity of course 🐶
